The Amateur Radio Emergency Service is the ARRL’s corps of licensed volunteers who provide communications support to public service agencies when normal systems are overloaded, damaged, or unavailable. WR4EC members serve Edgefield County as part of South Carolina ARES.
What we do
- Severe weather nets and SKYWARN spotting for the National Weather Service
- Backup communications for Edgefield County Hospital and emergency management
- Participation in the SCHEART linked repeater network for statewide healthcare emergency traffic
- Training exercises and the annual ARRL Simulated Emergency Test
Getting involved
Any licensed amateur may register with ARES — there is no experience requirement to start. Registration and training details are on the South Carolina ARES site. If you would like to take part locally, get in touch.
